#901Counts is an event combining the annual Point-in-Time Count (PIT) and historic Project Homeless Connect (PHC). During #901Counts, our compassionate team of service providers, community partners, stakeholders, and volunteers will come together under one roof to provide all those encountered during PIT count with immediate access to vital services and resources.
The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is an annual count of sheltered and unsheltered homelessness on a single night in January. It is held toward the end of the month during the hours when unsheltered individuals are most likely to be identified. Required nationally by HUD (Housing and Urban Development), the PIT Count provides a snapshot of homelessness in Memphis and Shelby County at a given point in time, and it is one of several critical elements used for measuring progress in our efforts to end homelessness.
The #901Counts PIT portion will occur on January 25th, 2024, between 4 and 8 am. All event portions will happen at the Memphis Sports and Events Center.

Frequently Asked Questions
I’m homeless, how can I get assistance?
If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness, check out our Get Help page with directions on accessing services in Memphis/Shelby County.
Why do we do the Point in Time Count?
The PIT count provides vital information to help us determine the needs of our community. This process allows us to identify and connect people experiencing homelessness to services, understand our progress on ending homelessness and guides our response to serving the individuals and families. This process plays a critical role in the CoC competition (aka how much funding for homelessness our community receives). The PIT also give us the opportunity to increase public awareness about homelessness.
The youth focused part of the PIT count is planned in collaboration with the Youth Action Board and utilizes different methods than the main PIT count. Youth are historically difficult to identify because many times they experience invisible homelessness which means they are less likely to seek services, less likely to be found in “visible” areas.
What is happening with youth during this year’s Point in Time Count?
This year, youth experiencing homelessness can attend our in person event to be counted, or call in to our hotline. See the information above for more information!
If you are a youth in need of services, or a youth serving organization that would like to hang up a flyer, reach out to Stellan Knowles.
